Tonight’s second-season premiere offers a reassuring blast of singing, dancing and high-school-faculty power-plays. New additions to the cast include: Sunshine, an exchange student with a big smile and bigger voice (played by teenage pop star Charice, whose fan club includes Oprah Winfrey); the Justin Bieber-esque Chord Overstreet as Sam, and a new football coach, known as “the Beast” (played by Dot Jones).
While Overstreet and Jones might not be too recognizable, Gleeks may remember Charice from her multiple “Oprah” appearances. “I love all the cast. They actually really gave me a warm welcome when I was on the set,” she said. “I love my character. It’s really me. It’s very Charice.”
Glee Season 2 will premiere its first episode “Audition” tonight at 8 p.m. Easter/9 p.m. Pacific on FOX.
‘Glee’ Returns with Huge Ratings Win
Billboard logo Glee Season 2 Episode 1 AuditionDebuting on a new night and a new time — Tuesday at 8 p.m. over its Fall 2009 timeslot of Wednesday at 9 p.m. — “Glee” received 12.3 million total viewers on Sept. 21, up 20% compared to its first season finale total of 11.1 million total viewers, and its best standalone tally without an “American Idol” lead-in.
Season 2 will definitely include recurring appearances by Charice, Chord Overstreet and John Stamos. “[Charice] came in, and it was a lovely meeting, and at the end her manager just had her sing a couple bars of ‘Gold Digger’ and it was like ‘Ohhhh, hold on a second,’” Falchuk says. “Oh yeah, she’s worth writing for.” (In the season opener, Charice sings a blow-the-roof-off rendition of Beyoncé’s “Listen,” and Falchuk says the intercut reactions of the “Glee” cast to her performance were all real. “It was shock,” he says. “She’s 4 foot 2 and she can sing like that? Ridiculous.”)
Charice's 'Glee' Debut And The Return Of 'Modern Family' In Today's Tweet Dreams
Lea Michele's character knew it in last night's season premiere of "Glee," and now the world knows it: Singing sensation Charice is a force to be reckoned with! The Twitterverse was clearly impressed by the 16-year-old's "Glee" debut, including Former "Glee" guest star and crooner Josh Groban who wrote to her, "@officialcharice Great job on Glee! Very happy that so many people will hear your beautiful voice." Charice (pictured) was clearly flattered by the attention, tweeting, "wow! trending topic!! :) thank you so much!! <3 i love you all!!!"
But, Charice isn't the only big thing in television this week, just ask Jesse Tyler Ferguson who told followers, "Any North Americaner who follows me on twitter doesn't need to be told what tonight is: Its the night after the big Glee premier!" He jests, but Jesse and his Emmy-winning "Modern Family" crew are back for a new hilarious season tonight (9 p.m. on ABC.) His little costar Nolan Gould (who plays the dopey and adorable Luke Dunphy) had us laughing already with his tweet, "Modern Family season 2 premiere tonite! Just so you know, Luke got extremely handsome over the summer, lol! So excited 2 be back on the air."
